Donkey Calf Raise
Overview
This exercise focuses on your calves, as you’d probably expect. The scientific name for your calves is “triceps surae,” but people often confuse that with your arm triceps, so we’ll just call them calf muscles. They extend from just behind your knee to your Achilles tendon.
Instructions
To begin, stand on the edge of the step, with the heels of your feet hanging off the edge. Bend over, placing both hands on the bench.
Lift your left foot, bending your knee to a ninety degree angle. Stretch your right heel all the way down, then press up off the ball of your foot, all the way up.
Tips
A common mistake is arching your back, which is bad for your spine. Instead, keep your back straight, breathing out as you lift yourself up, back in as you lower down.
Do that fifteen times, before switching to your other foot. I recommend three sets of fifteen.
It takes a bit of effort and concentration, but donkey calf raises are extremely effective. I highly recommend this exercise. Thanks for watching!
