Seated Calf Raises

Overview

This exercise obviously focuses on your calves. The scientific name for your calves is “triceps surae,” but people often confuse that with your arm triceps, so we’ll just call them calf muscles.

They extend from just behind your knee to your Achilles tendon.

Seated calf raises target the soleus muscle specifically, which is a large muscle that gives you the volume you need for better looking calves.

Instructions

  1. To begin, take a seat, keeping your back straight. Place the weights on your thighs, just above your knees.

  2. Lift your legs up on the balls of your feet, and lower down in a controlled motion.

Tips

A common mistake is to not use enough weight for seated calf raises. You remember, you have good leverage in this position, so make sure the weight is heavy enough that you really feel resistance.

Try three sets of 12 reps to start off with. If that doesn’t work, you can up your reps to fifteen.

It’s a straightforward exercise, but very powerful for getting that shape in your lower leg that you’re going for. Thanks for watching!
