Standing Dumbbell Calf Raises
Overview
This exercise focuses on your calves. The scientific name for your calves is “triceps surae,” but people often confuse that with your arm triceps, so we’ll just call them calf muscles. They extend from just behind your knee to your Achilles tendon.
Instructions
Set your feet to about shoulder-width apart. Tighten up your core, which you’ll need to maintain balance. You don’t have to use dumbbells, but I recommend them for extra burn.
Lift up onto the balls of your feet, then lower back down.
Keep breathing steadily as you perform the exercise.
Tips
A common mistake is to round your back. Instead, keep your shoulders back, and focus on keeping your core tight.
You should feel a burn after 12 to 15 reps. I recommend doing two to three sets of those.
Standing calf raises are great not just for your calves, but help with balance at your core. A really great warm up for leg day. Thanks for watching!
