Flutter Kicks
Overview
This exercise focuses on your core, especially abdominals. Abs are a paired muscle that run vertically down your abdomen, from just below your pecs, down to your pubic crest.
Tendinous intersections cross your abs horizontally, which is what gives you the six or eight pack look. Abs are the anterior part of your core muscles, and help keep you upright.
Instructions
To begin, ball your hands into fists, then place them under your glutes, which gets your body off the ground. Lift your legs so your feet are a few inches off the ground.
The exercise is really simple; just flutter your legs in opposite directions, keeping your back straight the whole time.
Tips
Your head will naturally tilt forward a little, but this is a common mistake. Instead, try your best to keep your spine neutral.
With a fast exercise like this, we do a four count. That means each time you kick up is only one rep. Left, right, left, right – that’s one rep. I recommend two sets of twenty reps at the end of your workout to really get the burn going.
You might feel a little silly performing flutter kicks on dry land, but I promise you, you’ll really feel it in your abs before you’re done. Thanks for watching!
