Why Are You Looking to Make Changes to Your Body?

We’ve looked at your current position, but the question that’s now on your lips should be just why are you looking to make changes to this? Why are you looking to change the vision you see in the photographs you have taken or an improvement in the measurements that you have recorded?

Why Puzzle pieces

Unfortunately, and we may as well reveal it quite early on in the process, improving these photographs and measurements is by no means an easy task. It’s almightily tough – and some days you won’t want to get out of bed. Your body will hate you and because of all this, you really do need to find out the deep reason why you are looking to make the changes. This is absolutely crucial if you are to secure your mindset.

You might be under the impression that you’re not going to feel the pain, or you’ll at least be numb to it. Sure, this is probably going to happen during the initial week or two of the plan – it’s the honeymoon period so to speak, everything seems rosy (regardless of how tough it really is).

It’s once you get into the weeks and months of things the dreaded brick wall occurs. The brick wall might be because of the intensity of the workouts, or it might be because life has suddenly got a whole lot busier and you really are struggling to get to the gym, or even eat properly. It’s this stage where the importance of devising a ‘Why?’ should really hit home.

Step #1 – Finding out your why

Hopefully, you know the reason why you want to make improvements, but for those of you who don’t we’ll mull over a few examples to give you a little inspiration.

A lot of the time it’s simply due to the aesthetics-factor. In other words, we want to look great, we want the beach body that is going to turn heads and ultimately, make us look proud when we gaze into the mirror on a morning.

For others, it might be purely down to a healthy lifestyle. You may have seen family members suffer with various ailments due to their poor physical condition, and decide that you want to act before you become part of that group as well.

There are countless other reasons as well. Maybe you have a family and want to act as a good example for them, so that they turn out to be healthy as they grow older as well.

The list really can go on but hopefully you’ll have seen that all of these are very personal reasons, and this is crucial if you are going to make a success of your journey.

Step #2 – Finding out your REAL why

You’ve hopefully found your basic reason why you wish to pursue your fitness path, but now it’s time to dig deeper. We provided the previous section to give a basic understanding of what you need to feel, but in truth it’s nowhere near as deep or detailed if you are to make a long-term success of your new lifestyle.

In fact, you really have to dig three levels deep and make it even more personal to your situation. For example, let’s take the family situation that we honed in on. You might want to provide a good example for your family, but if you really drill into the reason it might be that you just don’t want to be out of breath every time you climb the stairs to play with the kids.

If we drill down another level, it might be so that you don’t just have sufficient energy to play with them, but also have one eye on the future so you’ll be able to play with your grandchildren later down the line.

This is something that’s got very specific, and something that’s real and relatable when the going will inevitably get tough in the future.

Next, let’s take a look at the aesthetics example we gave. At first, we spoke about looking in the mirror and actually liking what you see. If we drill down further, it might not just be about you, but about your wife, or maybe a future partner instead. If we drill down even further again, you may even think about how your new appearance is going to enhance your appearance to a level which is going to boost your sex life.

Its examples such as the above which are utterly personable, and you’ll be able to relate to even at the worst of times. It’s far more useful doing this than just saying that you want to look better, or you want to feel better. This isn’t a sufficient ‘Why?’ – and will result in failure at a certain point in the future.
